Modern advancement of technology has offered a lot of possibilities of monitoring growth of babies in their mothers' wombs from early pregnancy. Ultra sound scans are used for this purpose as it is a harmless type of non invasive method of doing so. There are different kinds of scans one could use for this purpose.

While 2D scans are able to examine a baby to obtain almost all details of the functioning of different organs and locate any birth defects, it is the 3D Scans that are more efficient on the same purpose. The latest 4D type of scans are also used very often these days.
Generally, during the first visit to a doctor by a pregnant mother ends up with the doctor's recommendation for the first scan to confirm that the baby she is carrying is normal and healthy. Subsequent scans carried out at 20 weeks and 33 weeks are used to confirm the status.
